Last week was interesting, turmoil in Europe with the markets and businesses worldwide viewing election results in France and Greece negatively. A strong probability of a 2nd election in Greece and concern that the country might abandon the euro creating more instability for the common currency. More violence and deaths in Syria despite the arrival of the first UN observers.

Vidal Sassoon, died last week. I am certainly not a fashion or celebrity follower, but his name will be remembered by most baby boomers.

Mixed economic indicators in the USA and disastrous financial performances from Sony and J P Morgan.

Just read  about another famous senior no longer with us. Carroll Shelby creator of the Shelby Cobra and Mustang sports cars died on May 10 at age 89.

Worrying reports about the long-term unemployment rate for baby boomers. It seems that members of our generation are less likely to be laid off than younger employees, but much more likely to stay unemployed for an extended period than under 20′s if we do become unemployed.

That is serious, at age 55 no matter how healthy we may be, we just do not have enough working years left to recover from a long period without earning.

Economic and social conditions becoming more volatile in most of the Western economies.

All the more reason to start an internet based business that we can run from home to supplement our retirement income or replace income suddenly cut off by jobs coming to an end.

A friend recently introduced me to a very simple way to get started making money on the Internet with Penny Auctions. Not taking part in the auctions although that can be a source of some good bargains and a lot of fun. This idea is all about promoting Penny Auctions by posting on-line ads to advertising sites on the Internet.

It really is simple and quick, it takes me between 4 and 5 minutes each day to post my advert. That’s all I do, the investment to get started is low, it does pay to upgrade later to increase earning potential, but that can be funded out of earnings. What is exciting about it is the ability to check the statistics every day and see the rewards increasing.

This is an ideal business for you if you have limited time, cannot make a big investment to get started or are not completely computer literate, all you need to do is copy and paste.

Here’s the link: Zeek Rewards watch the 2 minute video and start building your retirement income today.

Wishing you a prosperous life.

Real Time Pain Relief for Baby Boomers

Real Time Pain Relief for Baby Boomers

Most Baby Boomers are starting to notice a few stiff and painful joints. It is a problem all of us baby boomers have to live with and it affects some of us more than others. The years of use – and abuse – of our joints are taking effect. I wrote about it in a post on April 19  How to find Real Time Pain Relief for aching joints.

In that post I mentioned a new product that I discovered, Real Time Pain Relief. My order arrived yesterday and today I decided to try it out.

The weather has warmed up, so much so that today I did not have to light the furnace. As a result,  the major aches and pains  I wanted the Real Time Pain Relief for, my foot, wrist and forearm which were damaged when a horse fell on me, are not acting up. I have been feeling pain in one finger joint, it is a little swollen. I do not remember injuring that finger, but it is quite possible that I did at some time.

It is more irritating than serious, but I thought it an ideal opportunity to try out the Real Time Pain Relief. It was irritating enough to remind me frequently that all was not well with the joint, it gave me a sharper reminder if I put pressure on it when picking things up or accidentally knocked it.

When I opened the packet, I immediately noticed the pleasant and refreshing smell. It reminds me of citrus, I rubbed it on the painful finger joint, waited 5 minutes and then repeated as the instructions recommended.

Because the joint had only been intermittently painful, I cannot in all honesty say that I felt instant relief, but a short time later, I did realise that I was picking things up without feeling any pain in that finger.

I had applied the Real Time Pain Relief at around 10 am this morning, I have been busy all day, working with the computer mouse and keyboard, writing with a pen, grooming and feeding the horses and even a few minutes stacking logs. I have hardly noticed the finger at all, only a couple of times when I have knocked it hard.

Real Time Pain Relief for Baby Boomers

It is only my first experience, but I am suitably impressed, I am almost looking forward to  a big ache in my back or somewhere so I can give it a good trial. Now if only I could use it for toothache (or the ache where the teeth used to be)!

Please note that this is my personal experience with the product, neither I nor the manufacturers can guarantee that every one will have the same pain relief experience with the product.

The other good thing about this product is that it comes in a travel pack which can be used for samples so that other people can experience the benefits.

May specials have just started, you can take advantage of these promotions by clicking here May Specials.

If you are like most of us baby boomers and are finding that your own aches and pains are getting more noticeable and more frequent, then try the natural soothing properties of Real Time Pain Relief before risking adverse reactions from taking too many pain-killer pills or prescription remedies.

Wishing you a prosperous and pain-free life.

Baby Boomers will benefit from new skin cancer diagnostic process.

One of the penalties of being a baby boomer is that our skin ages and show signs of exposure to the elements. Because I lived most of my life in Africa near the equator and at a  comparatively high altitude, I have had various forms of skin cancer treatment over a 30 year period. These include over 100 surgical excisions, many more lesions treated with liquid nitrogen, Photo Dynamic therapy and topical ointments. I have been very fortunate that my 70 or so confirmed carcinomas have all been either the squamous or basal cell variety, not melanomas.

With that long and at times painful experience, I am always interested in new treatments. Yesterday I came across a reference on the Internet to an article in Better Health magazine about a new diagnostic process that accurately determines the presence of the 3 important types of skin cancer, melanoma, basal and squamous cell as well as pre-cancerous lesions in under 2 seconds.

That is a huge advantage for both cost and convenience. It saves a long wait (in Canada) to get an appointment with a dermatologist, a biopsy of the lesion – which can be painful if the lesion is on a sensitive part of the body, ears for example, and then anther delay for the results.

It is estimated that there were 270 deaths from 74 000 new cases of basal and squamous cell carcinomas last year in Canada. Melanomas are much more dangerous. accounting for 950 deaths from 5500 cases.

The new diagnostic tool is the Verisante Aura developed by the BC Cancer Agency and the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine. It is manufactured by Verisante Technology Inc.

This development of this system is good news for baby boomers in particular. The dermatologist and surgeons I have been visiting all tell me that they are seeing significant increases in the number of cases of all types of skin cancers, particularly in the boomer generation. A lifetime of enjoying the sun is catching up with us. Most of our generation were unaware of the dangers of skin cancer and the use of skin protection creams and lotions was not widespread until we were adults and the damage had already been done.

Fortunately, the two most common types of skin cancer, basal and squamous cell are slow-growing and not normally life threatening if treated early. Surgical removal and freezing with liquid nitrogen can both be painful and disfiguring. I know from experience, I have had lesions surgically removed from my hands, arms, legs, back, neck, cheeks, ears and nose. The last three in particular are not pleasant. Parts of my body look like a map of rail tracks.

If you or someone you know develops small crusty, rough, red or brown lesions that do not go away, get them checked by your doctor. It is much easier, less painful and less disfiguring to have them treated by freezing when they are still small than to have them cut out and the excision sutured closed.

It is also very important to wear a wide-brimmed hat and long sleeves when spending long periods in the sun. My saving grace was having a mother who insisted that I wear a hat outside as a child, a habit I practiced all my life in Africa and continue even now in Canada. That has resulted in far fewer lesions on my face and neck than my arms and legs. The traditional baseball cap worn by many North Americans baby boomers and younger generations is practically useless for protection from the sun.

The one other treatment I have found useful since moving to Canada is a product that helps all the cells in the body repair and replace themselves better. Since starting to take Asea daily, I have noticed a significant reduction in the numbers of new lesions. Asea also enhances the effect of antioxidants which helps cellular health. As baby boomers, we need all the help we can get to stay healthy and enjoy life.

Wishing you a prosperous and healthy life.

Millions of people suffer from joint pain, not just baby boomers. Lower back, knees, hips, wrists and finger joints can be affected, but others include ankles, shoulders and necks. If you or someone you know suffers from any type of joint pain, this could help you.

There are hundreds of remedies for joint pain,  from different types of oral analgesics like aspirin to the aggressive prescription drugs with their risk of developing addiction. In severe cases of acute pain, after surgery for example,  injections of morphine type pain killers are used.

One of the problems with many oral pain relievers is the risk of dangerous side effects. These can be fatal, just one example  - some children have died as a result of being given codeine after tonsillectomy surgery.

Ointments, salves, creams, lotions, gels, poultices and herbal extracts make up another type of treatment for joint pain – topical treatment.

The last group is interesting, because most of the products in this group can be bought without prescription from pharmacies or drug stores and many are available in supermarkets.

Some are effective for joint pain, some marginally so and some practically useless. Some give instant relief but no long-lasting relief. Others give a temporary “warm” feeling around the affected joint which can mask the joint pain for a short time but not take it away. As soon as the warm feeling wears off, the joint pain returns.

I have personal experience of  joint pain and know what it feels like, some years ago, severe pain in my knees, put an end to my marathon running days. No doubt brought on by running too many ultra-marathons, falling off too many horses and generally living a very active life. Arthroscopy to remove debris from the joint capsule of the worst affected knee fixed that but I still have to be careful not to over stress that knee or the joint pain quickly returns.

Just last week, I came across Real Time Pain Relief, a new type of treatment for joint pain. I have used some of the ingredients before with good results, but I have not seen a product with the same blend of ingredients as this one.

Real Time Pain Relief is also looking for vendors, their system is not the same as the average Network Marketing business model, it has a number of advantages. It is estimated that there are 100 million people in the USA alone suffering from pain right now. Check out the Real Time Pain Relief system now it could be an ideal opportunity for baby boomers looking to supplement their incomes.

Wishing you a prosperous life.

3 reasons why this could be “THE” Internet Marketing system for Baby Boomers.

A problem for many Baby Boomers wanting to start an Internet business to supplement their retirement income, or just to bring in a little extra to make life easier, is they don’t know where to start.

There is such a flood of information about “making money on-line” coming into our in boxes and on social media, that it is too easy to get overwhelmed and give up before getting started.

I have been looking at Internet Marketing Systems, many are over priced, over promise or are too complicated for people with no internet or marketing experience.

There is one that stands out as being simple to follow and realistic about earning potential, it is the 10K Challenge.

3 reasons why this could be THE Internet Marketing system for Baby Boomers.

Three major benefits:

  • No upfront payment needed.
  • Only needs 1 hour or less a day.
  • Detailed training with a daily list of simple action steps.

Unlike most of the “business opportunity” programmes being advertised, the 10K Challenge does not promise that you will become a millionaire overnight. It says that you will not earn anything for at least a month, it will take several months to build up to a useful income. But, for someone who follows the steps and does the work, it has the potential to generate $10 000 a month after 12 months.

When I got back from my ride I shot a quick video about it, it is unedited, rough and ready, watch it and have a laugh.

Laughing aside, if you need to find a way to generate an income from home, whether you are a baby boomer or not, Internet Marketing is one of the few ways you can do it without having to invest a huge amount of capital.

Internet marketing is very simple, but it is certainly not easy. Why do 95 % of new comers fail in this industry or never earn more than a couple of hundred a month despite spending hours staring at their computer screens?

Two reasons:

  • Information overload  leading to confusion – jumping at each new opportunity and achieving no results.
  • Not following directions or a blueprint of action steps to keep on track.

The 10K Challenge solves both of those problems, it is very simple to follow and it has daily instructions to keep you on track.

Check it out today, it could mean the difference between retiring when you are still young enough to enjoy life or having to work until you are too old to enjoy anything.

Wishing you a prosperous life.

Today’s post is by guest author Marie Dina of Hoard-not.

Maria is an expert at helping people overcome the obsession to hoard. Hoarding can often be a problem for baby boomers and seniors living alone, but it can affect the younger generations too.

_____________________________________

Having just walked into my grannies house for a short visit I was dumb founded by the chaos surrounding me. There was un-opened mail stacked on the kitchen table. Magazines on all four chairs, and un-washed dishes in the counter and in the sink.

What’s going on I thought to myself.

Thinking it was just a bad day for her I went into the living room. Shock is the only word I can use. There were boxes all over the floor and on the furniture. Not one empty space for us to sit down.

I didn’t want to make a scene so I said lets go to your bedroom and look at Gramps photos. That’s when I nearly fell to the floor with surprise. There wasn’t even a spot on the bed to sleep on. With that, I walked to the closet, opened it, and sure enough, it was filled with clothes that still had store tags on them.

Granny hadn’t even worn the clothing.

I sat down and cried for a bit realizing Granny had become a hoarder unbeknown to anyone in the family.

Now I knew why she had stopped inviting us over.

If this sounds even vaguely familiar, then someone you love has turned the corner from compulsive shopping to hoarding. There are however many places you can, as a family member or friend, turn to for help.

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, sadly I must be on that road. Despite a determination to post at least once a week to this blog, I missed last week.

I could find a whole list of excuses, but that’s all they are. It’s a problem affecting many Baby Boomers, although generally fit and healthy, parts of the body need repair with increasing frequency.

One interesting observation on health is the speed at which my mouth has recovered after 4 separate sessions of tooth extractions over a 6 week period.

You may recall that in an earlier post I wrote how my teeth had deteriorated rapidly since my heart attack in September 2010. Not being prepared to invest the equivalent of a new medium size car in my mouth to rebuild damaged teeth, perhaps only with a temporary solution, I opted for dentures.

Originally it was planned to extract 7 upper and 3 lower teeth at the end of February, but I was warned that if difficulties were experienced, a second session might be required.

To cut a long story short, “difficulties” were experienced, major difficulties resulting in, ultimately 12 teeth being removed over 4 sessions, the last 2 in the hospital because of the “difficulties”. I am certainly not going to nauseate you with the gory details, suffice it to say that a lot of drilling, cutting and manipulation was required. It was all done with me wide awake and pain-free, such is the wonder of local anaesthetic. On each occasion I required several sutures to close up the torn gums.

On my last visit, the dentist remarked how well my mouth had healed from the previous visits, far better than he would have expected was his comment. He asked what I had been doing and was surprised when I told him only salt water mouth rinses several times a day and my regular daily dose of Asea which I have been taking for 18 months now.

Asea is the only product that can boost the reactive molecules of redox signalling in the body. The benefits are:

  • Enhanced effect of antibodies
  • Better cell communication, repair and replacement
  • Increased efficiency of oxygen utilisation (Increased VO2 levels)

I have also noticed a drastic reduction in the number and size of benign sun induced skin keratoses and basal cell carcinomas that I have been having removed for the last 30 years, since using Asea.

Add to those benefits my good recovery from a heart attack and I am a firm believer in this product. Check it out here:

Seniors do have a sense of humour.

It’s been a disrupted couple of weeks for me, two sessions a week apart at the dentist to extract more difficult teeth, that is now 10 over the last few weeks. Now I get a break for 2 months until the last 4 come out and the dentures get fitted. All as a result of the medications I am taking since my heart attack.

With that and the record warm weather we were fortunate to experience last week,  it has been hard to concentrate on writing.

This supposed job application for a position at a California Wal-Mart store was sent to me. It was allegedly submitted by a 75-year-old and the story goes that the store was so amused by the application that they hired the man.

Whether it’s true or not, it is still good for a laugh.

Something else that I Discovered this week is Empower Network. It is a ready to go system for people with no internet experience to get started with a blog and an Internet Marketing business.

Over the last few years, I have looked at many systems and tried a few. I have felt that most were either overpriced, too difficult for people with no experience or under delivered. This one is reasonably priced, easy to work and has good training resources. Will it make you a fortune overnight? Probably not, but it will get you started without having to spend time setting up your own blog from scratch. Whether you want to start your own Internet business or just publish a blog to share your thoughts, this will help you take that first step.

Check it out here Empower Network. This link will take you to the blog I set up with the system in a few minutes, click on either of the buttons to watch the video. This is an affiliate site, if you subscribe to the system from this link, I will get a commission.

Wishing you a prosperous life.

How to recognise a stroke – signs all Booomers should know.

Do you know how to recognise signs of a stroke? It is not just us Baby Boomers who are affected by strokes.

A friend of mine sent me an email with this message about recognising a stroke. A friend of his had witnessed a woman fall at a barbecue, it was a minor slip, no apparent damage and she put it down to wearing a new pair of shoes that day. Later that night, she was dead. The fall was caused by a stroke, because every one accepted her explanation and assumed she was all right, no one checked her more thoroughly. By the time she arrived at the hospital after collapsing at home it was too late.

It made me remember a similar case of a woman in her late 30s I knew of who had a sudden headache, a mild feeling of discomfort then hours later collapsed and died.

Here are the 3 things to check for if a person of any age falls over or becomes unsteady for no apparent reason – and a new 4th indicator.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the ’3′ steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *
Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(I.e. It is sunny out today.)
R
*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS..

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke ——– Stick out Your Tongue

If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

Stay healthy and prosperous.

How can a Petunia and twitter keep us mentally alert?

How can a Petunia and twitter keep us mentally alert?

How can a Petunia and twitter keep us Baby Boomers mentally alert? How can a Petunia and twitter keep us mentally alert?

Well, the title is a little misleading, but it is not false. Now that I have got your attention, bear with me and read on.

There is a huge amount of published information on the importance of keeping our brains active as we get older. It is particularly important for those of us who have the financial resources to enjoy the luxury of retiring or at least reducing the hours we work at a job or business. I have highlighted “luxury” because for many people it is any thing but a luxury and is more like a ticket to an early grave.

Why should that be? Because research shows that if we do not have a purpose in our life, we will be miserable no matter how much money we have or how many diversions we can afford.

Strange as it sounds, most of us are happier during working hours, even in jobs or businesses that we do not really like, than in our free time when we are looking for activities to spend that time on.

That is why many people start to lose their physical and mental health soon after retiring unless they have a hobby, cause or other business activity to give their lives purpose. Spending time with grandchildren can provide that purpose, so can travel, charity work, helping others, starting a new business, creative activities like writing or painting, a new exercise programme.

Circumstances, politics and if I am honest, some bad decisions in the past have denied me the luxury of an early retirement and I will be eternally grateful for that.  Because I have had to change countries, careers and after my heart attack, rapidly develop new skills to generate an income, I have enough interesting stuff on my plate to keep me going 24 hours a day.

Last week, I watched a video by Dan Kennedy, a highly successful entrepreneur, marketing genius and personal development expert. One of the concepts he encourages people to follow is to “Run towards the fire” that is just part of a number of ideas that all refer to doing the opposite of what the majority does.

The “Run towards the fire” bit resonates with me because as we get older, we tend to be more cautious, we are the first to move away from the fire, leave the youngsters to take the chance of getting burned.

Unless we do not have a choice, if running towards the fire is the only way to survive, even as Boomers we will be racing the youngsters to get there.

A few of the things I have done since turning 50 are:

  • Learning to play Polo.
  • Moving to a new country.
  • Getting a job after being self-employed for 15 years.
  • Leaving that job and becoming self-employed again.
  • Learning to drive on the other side of the road from the other side of the vehicle.
  • Learning how to use a chain saw, snow blower and drive through coffee shops.
  • Learning to skate on ice.
  • Started public speaking again after over 20 years.
  • Started using social media, creating websites and publishing blogs.

I did not put this list here to boast, just to show what is possible even in middle age, many others have achieved much more after their 50th birthdays.

Why I believe social media is wonderful for helping keep our brains active is that there is so much that we can do with it to keep our brains active.

The Petunia connection is coming, but first some background on my twitter experience.

I was one of the early twitter users and have been active on it for over 3 years. I have not aggressively gathered followers, preferring to build my following organically. Some days I might get 25 new followers, others 5. There is always some attrition, people closing their accounts, disliking one of my tweets and un-following me or being closed down by twitter. Although I occasionally experience a net loss, my number of followers has steadily increased. It is around 9000 today.

My followers and those I follow are an interesting mix, most days I spend 30 minutes or so every morning and again in the evening catching up with regular tweeters in my various lists, picking up useful snippets of information, finding links to new programmes, new websites, news sources, the breadth and depth of information is endless. I also find myself seeing points of view from people with whom I might disagree completely, but it is hard to get offended by anything spelled out in 140 characters. My twitter engagement has certainly broadened my mind, probably made me more tolerant in some ways and also, reassured by the many people who share the same beliefs and values as I. All good medicine for keeping mentally active.

But twitter can provide a a lot of fun too. Now here is the Petunia connection.

A couple of months ago, @pinkbutterfly01 followed me on twitter. I had no idea who was behind the butterfly twitter handle, from the witty tweets, I suspected it was a woman and someone with an excellent command of the English Language. As a joke, we began exchanging the odd tweet wishing each other a happy day but using alliteration appropriate for the day of the week. Marvellous Monday, Terrific Tuesday etc. This then grew into a contest to see who could create a sentence with the longest string of words starting with the same letter that while not 100% grammatically correct, still made sense.

It might sound a frivolous use for twitter, but it is just one example of something that is fun and gets me really dredging the depths of my memory for words that I might have learned or read somewhere many years ago. It certainly exercises my mind.

Through a mutual twitter user, I discovered that the pink butterfly was a woman, a delightful person by the name of Petunia, certainly younger than I but with a wonderful sense of fun and very skilful with words. I may never meet Petunia, but I am very grateful for her introducing me to a way to make twitter more fun and keep me mentally agile. Thank you Petunia.

Are you on twitter? Stop by one morning and join our word game, a daily word match between @zimpeterw and the pink butterfly. We will take on all challengers.

Explore social media, Facebook, You Tube, Google+ Linked In and many more, it is an easy, fun, educational and economical way to exercise your brain.
Wishing you a prosperous and healthy life.
